Leon Ruri appointed CEO of Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation

The Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation is proud to announce the appointment of Leon Ruri as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
A respected leader and advocate for Indigenous empowerment, Mr Ruri brings with him a wealth of experience in leadership, cultural engagement, and community development on Whadjuk Country and across Australia.
Leon Ruri, a man of Māori heritage and long-time ally and collaborator with Aboriginal communities, is best known for his transformative work building cultural bridges, empowering Indigenous voices, and supporting youth leadership initiatives. His passion for community connection is exemplified in his previous work leading Haka for Life, a movement that promotes mental health and cultural expression among Indigenous and First Nations peoples.
As CEO, Mr Ruri will lead the strategic growth of the Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation, strengthening its role in representing the interests of Whadjuk Noongar people, protecting cultural heritage, and driving sustainable outcomes in land management, native title, and economic development.
“I am deeply honoured to be entrusted with this role by the Whadjuk community,” Mr Ruri said. “I stand committed to listening, learning, and working alongside Whadjuk Elders, leaders, and families to uphold cultural integrity and create opportunities that empower our people—on Whadjuk Boodja and beyond.”
His appointment marks a significant chapter in the Corporation’s journey as it continues to build partnerships across government, industry, and community to ensure the aspirations of the Whadjuk people are realised and respected.
